Mary Lou Haberkorn of Simi Valley passed away peacefully on Monday July 31, 2023, surrounded by her family with her beloved and faithful rescue dog Skye constantly at her side following her battle with cancer. She was preceded in death by her husband of more than 40 years, Terrance Haberkorn, her parents Louis and Irma Sapino and her brother-in-law Jon Goldsworthy.
She is survived by her children and granddaughter including son Michael Haberkorn (Katy), her granddaughter Harley Haberkorn, and daughter Teresa Croson (Chris).
She is also survived by her sister Linda Goldsworthy, her nephew Jon Robert Goldsworthy (Rika), their daughter Alyssa (12), her niece Margret Faylor, (John), their daughter Jordyn (12), her niece Debra Tilney, (Dan), their sons Devin (15) and Trevor (10).
Mary Lou also leaves behind many, many friends whom she loved dearly and was always ready to help, as they were for her, and her family is very grateful for them.
Born Mary Louise Sapino on August 21,1940 in Gary, Indiana, she moved with her parents to Van Nuys, California when she was 8. She graduated from Van Nuys High School and went to work for AAA for a few years, then continued her career at Litton Industries as a loyal employee until her retirement. It was there that she met her husband Terry, and they married on May 15, 1971.
After retiring Mary Lou enjoyed volunteering at several places, including Simi Valley Adventist Hospital and For the Troops in Simi Valley. Mary Lou had a great talent for all kinds of crafts, creating many treasured knitted and crocheted items from clothing to stuffed animals, and beautiful diamond art among many other things, and she contributed many of these for fund raising events.
She was very active in Westlake Community Christian Church. She thoroughly enjoyed her Bunco club, her Saturday morning coffee group, going to dinner with her friends, and loved to dance.
Mary Lou travelled extensively, cruising with her husband Terry until his death in 2012 and a few times after, sharing that experience with friends and family, creating some of our favorite memories together.
Memorial Services are Friday, August 18 2:00 pm at Reardon Simi Valley Funeral Home, 2636 Sycamore Dr. Simi Valley, CA 93065. A reception will follow onsite.
