Martin Vasquez, 82, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on November 23, 2014 in Simi Valley, CA. He is remembered as an honorable hardworking man who loved his family and friends.
Martin was born July 1, 1932, in Saticoy, California, where he was raised in a very large loving family with strong family ties and values. He was a resident of Ventura County for 82 years.
In 1953 Martin joined the US Army and served in the Korean War. He was a patriotic man and proud to have served in the US military. He belonged to the Korean War Veterans Association Chapter 56 and enjoyed gathering with his fellow veterans for reunion picnics and general meetings.
After returning from the Korean War Martin married the love of his life Norma Martinez Vasquez. They moved to Reseda, CA where they began their family and had two sons and a daughter Martin Jr, Gilbert and Laurie. In 1961 they relocated to Simi Valley. They bought their first home and extended the family with a fourth child and third son Paul.
Martin was a hardworking man. He worked for City of Los Angeles for over thirty years then retired in 1987. He held jobs after retiring including LA USD and the Local Laborers Union 309. Martin always kept busy after retirement with various projects around the house, gardening or helping Norma babysit their grandchildren.
Martin’s hobbies included gardening, collecting comics, and hot wheels, action hero figurines, attending Dodger and Raider games with his sons. He spent his leisure time enjoying family, and friends. He loved to family gatherings, music, dancing, sharing stories about the Korean War, family, and growing up. He always offered positive encouragement to everyone.
Martin was an honorable man – he was honest, hardworking, and always saw the good in people and he will be missed. Martin Vasquez was preceded in death by his wife Norma Vasquez. Martin is survived by his children Martin Jr., Gilbert, Laurie, and Paul. He will also be dearly missed by his sixteen grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. There will be a visitation on Wednesday, December 3 from 5-9:00p.m. with vigil at 7:00p.m. at Reardon Simi Valley Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Peter Claver on Thursday, December 4, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. with interment to follow immediately at Valley Oaks Memorial Park In Westlake.
