Captain Leonard V. Delling June 14, 1925 - April 30, 2018
Leonard Delling, 1948 Annapolis Graduate and Retired United States Navy Captain, passed away late Monday night of natural causes. He was nearing his 93rd birthday. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Patricia, children Randall, Ranelle, Pam and Jill, grandchildren Tana, Tyler, Randy, Jack, Sophia, Aiden, Annie, Kindra, Carl, Joan and Jana and great grandchildren Devin, Audrey.
Leonard had many careers during his life. He was a math and shop teacher at University High School in Los Angeles and a math and engineering professor at Pierce College in Woodland Hills. He was an electrical engineer for Collins Radio, RCA and Litton. In retirement, he researched and produced methodology for recovery of oil and environmental cleanup of large oil spills in the ocean.
Leonard was a skilled athlete and was the West Coast Epee Fencing Champion for many years. In 1963, he was an Olympic Fencing Squad Member. Captain Delling was a family man who did much to help his family and friends throughout his life. Through his conduct, counsel and teaching, he touched many lives in so many positive ways. Leonard enjoyed spending his time being helpful to others, and he was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, friend, life coach and teacher.
There will be a Funeral Mass on Monday, May 7, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Peter Catholic Church in Simi Valley with interment to follow immediately after at San Fernando Mission Cemetery.
