Joseph Ruhr

Joseph Ruhr passed away on March 9th, 2015, at the age of 96 in Thousand Oaks, California. Joe was born July 4, 1918 in Rosemount, MN, the son of Ferdinand Anthony Ruhr and Marie Gores Ruhr, and brother to Rosemarie (Ben) Sontag and Marcella (Lew) Linde of Hastings, MN.
In 1944, Joe graduated from University of Colorado in Boulder with a BA in Finance and Accounting. His career included banking, credit processing for Union Oil Company, and accounting for a number of hospitals in the San Fernando Valley, as well as being a realtor.
Music always held a special place in Joe's heart, and he particularly enjoyed the Big Band sounds, and his association with local Goebel Senior Center's band, "The Unforgettables." Joe played the saxophone in the band for many years as well as managing and planning “gigs” for the group. He had many long term friendships from his association with the band. He also loved boating and fishing. He built his own cabin cruiser, which he used to fish in Lake Arrowhead where he and his wife Bette built and maintained a vacation home for many years.
Joe is survived by his daughter, Nancy Chavez, son-in-law Alan Hitt, grandsons Jason (Julie) and Brian (Melissa) Hitt, and great grandchildren, Parker, Berkley, and Henry Hitt and Bette Ruhr’s children, son Randall Kinsling and his wife Susan, grandchildren Todd Kinsling his wife Ashley, Paige (Kinsling) Walker and great grandchildren Addison Kinsling and Quinn Walker. Joe's wife of 48 years, Elizabeth (Bette) Kinsling Ruhr, and his daughter, Susan Hitt, preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be held in Hastings, Minnesota, at a future date.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the "Marcella Ruhr Linde Endowment," a scholarship fund for nursing students established by the Linde family in memory of Joe's sister, Marcella, c/o St. Catherine University, 2004 Randolph Ave, Mail F-12, Saint Paul, MN55105-1750; or the charity of your choice.
