Anthony Renald Loniero (Tony/Rennie)

December 13, 1935 - March 17, 2024

It is with a deep sadness to announce the passing of Tony Loniero on March 17, 2024. Tony was born December 13, 1935 in Carnegie, PA to John and Lillian Loniero. He was one of six children – Joan, Gene, Lisa, Nina, and Maria. While growing up in Carnegie he met and married the love of his live Catherine Reed also known as (Kay/Gee/Gram). Tony and Cathy would have celebrated their seventy first wedding anniversary this coming April 11, 2024. Proudest moments for Tony and Cathy were the birth of their six children Robin, Rennie, Toni, Joe, Jack, and Mary. After the birth of their first five children and the closing of the Steel mills in and around Carnegie they were due for a change. They decided to follow his sister Lisa and her husband Zane to California where he became a Los Angeles Police Officer and settled in Simi Valley and has resided here for the past 60 plus years until his passing. After retirement from LAPD Tony became a police officer for the Los Angeles Community College System which gave him 35 years in law enforcement. Over the past 60 years they have established many friendships and bonds with the community.

As a longtime resident of Simi Valley some of Tony’s favorite activities were attending mass at St Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Tony was a fixture there every Sunday until his passing. Tony was big in the Knights of Columbus Council 5803 his favorite part was leading the fish fry every Friday during lent, or on the first Fridays of each month not during the holy season, as well as feeding the homeless once a month at the Knights of Columbus Hall with his dear friend Tony Bonomo. He loved being the Patriarch of four generations of the family. It meant so much to him to be involved with his children while they grew up, and as they all grew and started their own families giving him 15 grandchildren, and the fourth generation as his grandchildren gave him 26 great grandchildren. He was always there whether it was football, soccer, basketball, baseball Simi High or Royal High or youth sports or activities in Simi Valley he was there to support his family. Other interest he had during his earlier days loved to play golf, Texas hold-em, boating at Buena Vista with his sister Lisa and her family. Most of all he loved his Pittsburg Steelers.

Some of Tony’s most enjoyable moments were taking road trips back to Pennsylvania in the family station wagon, vacationing, a special vacation to Italy, and many cruises. He loved reading the newspaper every day and doing crossword puzzles and the daily word jumble. However, most of all his favorite activity was spending time with his family and enjoying a meal.

Tony was preceded in death by his sister Maria Loniero, Parents John and Lillian Loniero, Sister Nina Kovanis, Son Joe Loniero, Daughter Toni Loniero, Son-in-Law Ken McGowan.
