Vince, or Paul, as known by many family & friends, was proud to be a 6th generation Californian born April 20, 1938 in Los Angeles, CA. to Juanita Elwell Nowell of Santa Paula and Andrew Benjamin Nowell, Sr. born in Macon, GA.
As a young man, Vince proudly served four (4) years in the United States Air Force which served as the foundation to his lifelong technical writing career in the aero-space/defense/government industries. Upon achieving his M.A. in both History (CSUN) and Education (CLU) he founded his own consulting business, Wordsmith, in 1982. While he consulted on countless projects he was most proud of his involvement with Atomics International in support of NASA’s Apollo program and Rocketdyne on the J-2 rocket engine used in the 2nd & 3rd Saturn V rocket that first took man to the moon.
He was affiliated with many civic and private organizations to include; Calleguas Municipal Water District, El Rancho Simi Cemetery District, Channel Island Shores Vacation, and the office of Ventura County Supervisor, Jim Dougherty. He also taught history and technical writing at local community colleges
He was an avid reader and accumulated an extensive personal library to include vintage books, publications and periodicals. He loved all genres but was particularly fond of sci-fi and history. He would read the local newspaper from cover-to-cover and was often known to voice his written opinion on local and national issues to the local editor.
Vince will be remembered as a true Patriot; a man who loved his country and was proud to be an American.
