Debra Johnson

April 4, 1955 — June 17, 2022

Name: Debra Rae Johnson
Born: April 4th 1955
Place of Birth: St. Mary’s Hospital Long Beach, Ca.
Passed Away: June 17th 2022 Simi Valley, Ca.
Aged: 67 yrs. 2 mos.
Occupation: Accounting
Graduated Chatsworth High School. Attended Pierce College and the West Valley Occupational Center. She studied with Native American teachers at different times.
Debra enjoyed participating in gymnastics, dance, yoga, meditation, beadwork and crafts.
I met Debra when she was 37 through group meditation meetings. For the next 30 years she was the queen of my heart and for the last 14 years my dear beloved wife. I will always cherish her spirit.
In Debra’s world view the Earth was the Mother of all creation. She felt that humankind’s original instructions were to be an integral part of the “Circle of Life” rather than have dominion over it. She honored all living things as “relations”. She saw the Circle of Life as having no hierarchy. She liked a saying by one of our dear friends/teachers regarding a supposed dominant hierarchy to creation it was “If all the animals left the Earth tomorrow man could not survive, if man left the Earth tomorrow all the animals would throw a big party”. The point being who needs who in the long view.
Debra really loved her grandchildren. She enjoyed talking with them and being part their lives. She really liked beading, leather working and making things out of natural materials. The crafts reflected her world view in creative way. She did really good work. Another thing that was remarkable about Debra was her generosity, especially toward her friends. I saw this many times.
Debra just loved her pets and would carryon conversations with them. She treated them as people. Sometimes I would wonder if she was on the phone and I would come into the room and there would be her cat listening intently to her every word. They just loved to cuddle with her.
Debra just adored her dad he was small in stature but not in heart, kindness or spirit. I remember when we were married, he shook my hand and said “Mike welcome to the family” and I could tell that he sincerely meant what he said. She also just loved talking with her aunt Norma on the phone. They would have the best conversations and she was always in Norma’s “corner” on issues of the day.
Here is something that an old friend of ours said about meeting her: “When we first reconnected and I had an opportunity to come to your house and I saw Debra … while you were at work at your office I saw that she was a pure spirit”.
I can really say that it was a blessing for me to have a life partner with the same general out on life as I did from a spiritual point of view. I’m so grateful for that. She was such a dear friend in all the best ways possible. Debra as her “Mother’s” daughter has dropped her “earth robe” and gone on her “journey” now. She will travel the “Star Road” for we are stardust and to the stars we shall return.

It was December '94 I think (could be wrong on which actual game not the teams). Joe Montana, Marcus Allen and the K.C. Chiefs were playing my son's favorite Oakland Raiders. There was a lot of trash talking going on. Debra was for K.C. and she was telling him how his Raiders were going to lose. He would say JOKINGLY "Woman you talk too loud" (it was a line from a movie). So my son explained how Montana was a has been etc. Debra would then would make a comeback and so it went. It turns out that K.C. won the game and did Debra start riding Trent then. It was all good natured but my son didn't care much for it.--- Good Times
It was 1992. We were at stone circle in the hills behind T.O. singing prayer songs and just enjoying the sacred space. I was kind of facilitating things and I looked off in the distance and could just see the top of Mount Allen with a small cloud above it. It appeared as if the small cloud began to move in our direction. As the prayers went on the cloud grew closer. When it came Debra's time to pray aloud the cloud was now overhead and began to rain as if on cue. Then quickly stopped and moved off. The synchronicity in time and space of the whole thing was amazing.
At our wedding in 2008 Bill, Debra's dad, was busy planning the whole thing. I remember how she cherished that whole effort by him. She loved him so much. He was very proud and rightly so of how everything turned out. She always remembered that. It was just so special how she felt about him.
A story Debra liked to tell was how her mom told her dad "Bill you work too much, you better start spending more quality time with the kids". So he bought a ski boat and they went off to a lake to camp out in a big tent and put it to use. Bill would cook all the meals. Well on the first day all the kids that were there managed to get up and ski a little except Debra. Debra's dad was an M/E and use to technical problem solving. So later that evening he said to her "I know what the problem is" and she said what. He told her "I've got to give it more gas, you're bigger than the other kids and that has got to be it". Well sure enough the next day he was right and she did get up and ski.-- She loved that tale.
Debra had a really good bond with all her pets. It was around Easter in 1998 or '99 and she had this good sized cat. She was born undomesticated under a vacant house and Debra adopted her along with the mother and sister. Well she decided that "Bitie Big Girl" was going to wear these long white bunny ears. I told Debra that there was no way that cat was going to stand for it. Sure enough I came home in a day or two and there she was wearing the bunny ears waking around the house. Humorous and amazing.
