Obituary for Cherie Lynnae Whitaker

Cherie Lynnae Whitaker, who passed May 31, 2019, was a ray of sunshine for the entire community. Always giving and donating her time to others, Cherie had a special love for the veterans. For many years she produced the Salute to Arms luncheons inviting and honoring all veterans in Simi Valley. In 2014 she worked tirelessly to bring the AV Veterans Memorial Wall to Simi Valley. She volunteered her time and means to many worthy causes from the Free Clinic to For the Troops.

Cherie’s career in public relations led to the promotion of numerous performers and personalities, including Frank Zappa and Sony Records. She worked with Mark and Brian at KLOS, and at that station involved her parents as Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus. She also worked for KMET and toured with Judas Priest. Other professions included working as an emergency nurse and a paralegal.

For many years, Cherie served in Public Affairs for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. In that capacity she built Facebook pages and promoted events. She coordinated many events including blood drives, food drives, and community service days. She promoted Simi Community Christmas, a nondenominational event celebrating Christmas through displays and performances, now in its 14th year. She was also involved in the creation of Simi Valley’s Interfaith Council. She spread her love of Jesus Christ and her love of His gospel with everyone with whom she associated.

Born December 19, 1953 to parents Raymond Whitaker and June Whitaker, she is preceded in death by her parents and her brother Alan. She is survived by brothers Ron and Jay, niece Summer, and grand nephew Seth. Love came to her later in life, but fiancé Christopher Morrow was her soul mate and the love of her life.

Funeral services for Cherie are scheduled for Friday, June 7, 10:00 AM at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 3979 Township Avenue, Simi Valley. All are invited to attend. Following the service, she will be interred at Oakwood Memorial Park in Chatsworth.

Cherie I wish we could have had a conversation about you touring with Judas Priest. I still have a concert T-shirt from the 80’s. Maybe you were there. We were destined to be friends. I love and miss you dearly. Kimmy

I'm so sorry for your loss. Cherie was such a good person and was always thinking of others. The day I was in the hospital and her finding out my baby died in me at 7months she started a GoFundMe me page so I can bury my son. She was always giving me good advice and her smile was contagious.
