BORN AUGUST 23,1939
To Lucia and Jose Fletes
He was one of 10 children number eight down the line. He was so loved and his love for his family was noticeable in how he lived.
Unfortunately his Mom Lucia passed away durning child birth it would have been the eleventh child. For this reason dad call Mary , Mami Maria. He had deep love for Mother Mary. Our Lady of Guadalupe. She would always be in his heart.
Dad was five September 4,1944 that was a very sad day for the 10 children and Grand Pa Jose Fletes. This was one of those days that marked Dad.
Life goes on in his young life. He loved living life with all of his sibling. He thought the world of his Father. He respected and loved him so much.
Grandpa remarries and has five more children. So he had a total of 15 children now. And they were and are greatly loved and cherished.
Dad was bright normal playful I new because of the stories that were told. One was that finished school early because he was in a mixed class with 5th and 6 graders and even older children who had not finished their studies . But Dad finished school in 5th grade he did two years in one.
No more school he was off to work.
Now he would help grand pa Jose along with his older brothers as a cowboy. They would heard cattle. He had beautiful adventures here. He had a tamed bull that he loved and named named Toribio. His donkey was also very special and he named him Chompis. These mascots felt his love it was a very unique relationship. When they heard his voice they almost went crazy with joy.
At 14 his eldest brother Enrique called him to Mexical to enroll in college. That was around 1953. He studied accounting and business administration. Again he applied himself to school and finished his college. He enjoyed working in Mexical doing accounting and doing some business administration for the municipal court. So Dad had a new world now. His college business world he met a wide variety of people these people trusted him with their business. He was always respectful , reliable to all, his integrity and reputation created wonderful connections with people.
So uncle Enrique gets married to Matilde Torres and he takes Dad to live with him and his wife in the Santa Monica. They settled on Grant and Lincoln . Then his other brother Felipe came to California, so they got an apartment right next to our uncle Enrique so they were close to each other. That strong Family bond was always there.
So the brothers started working in a refinishing furniture business.
Dad gets married April 26, 1964 in Torreón Mexico to Gloria Amezcua Sanchez.
He had a wonderful marriage with our mom. Dad always so loving with her that everything he did was to be happy with her. He enjoyed her wonderful cooking and Dad was a pretty good cook himself. Everything Dad cooked was delicious. Food was always a gift from God.
I was there first daughter born February 1965 I was so close to dad that first year. I could be like a tic on him because he was so affectionate with me . Dad was so loving with my siblings. He had nicknames for all his six children
Gloria ,Adam , Marisela, Sergio, Jimmy, and Layla.
Dad loved team sports.
He would run a few miles to train and keep fit. He would start at from
Santa Monica beach and run to Venice beach and back. He loved the ocean.
Around 1969 they bought there first home at 3611 Colonia Ave Mar Vista California 90036
We had 6 wonderful years there. Going to Mass at St. Marks Parish also St Agustine’s and St Gerard’s St. Monica’s, St. Joan of Arch and so on.
Sunday was always a day for Holy Mass.
Then its was okay to do the rest of the things in life.
We spent a lot of time swimming and having volleyball games at Mar Vista park. There were so many of us. And when Dad got off work he would join us to play volleyball. Sunday he would get his girls ,sons ,nephews, and nieces to play soccer, baseball or some kind of outing to the mountains or beach.
The Fourth of July were great picnic days at the beach.
Then we moved to 3021 Bentley Ave. West Los Angeles California 90034 by this time work and life in Los Angeles was getting pretty busy.
But Dad and Mom still managed to take us on some wonderful trips to visit family in Mexico.
And they made sure we had plenty of time to be with extended family but it always felt like we wanted more time. More time to play with Dad.
February 1,1978 GrandPa Jose passed away in Guadalajara Mexico and that was a very sad day for Dad and the rest of his siblings.
Dad respected and loved Grand Pa for all the things he was. For defending the Church in time of turmoil in Mexico. Living the life of a true Cristero from around 1919 to around 1930’s . Fighting the Mexican government to protect our Catholic Faith. Even with all Grandpa Jose to always remained a loving Father.
Then in September 1985 he and mom purchased their home in Simi Valley. Where he lived until today. February 1, 2021.
Here he would drive to west LA every day to continue working. That was heroic. Waking up early to deal with traffic and putting a minimum of ten hours a day of work in. Dad always worked hard and finally retired from work in the early 2000’s. He was smart hard working and he did it for along time.
In 1970 he started his own shutter painting business he named it Adam’s Paint Shop. God blessed him as he was very successful.
He was well known for having a wonderful reputation for being a great shutter painter both for commercial and residential costumers. The product was always like the customer wanted.
People like Jack Lemon was also a friend and wonderful client . Jack would send Dad a Lemon cake for many Christmas’s. It was always so yummy. Thank you Jack for thinking about Dad.
Dad was also so kind to his employees. He always made sure there were free drinks and lunch for his employees. Always so caring.
August 1988 he purchased his ranch in Fillmore California. That was his hobby. That was something very special to Mom and Dad. It was their special dream.
He also felt blessed to travel to the Holy Land and to make pilgrim trips to Lourdes, Fatima, Medjugoreje, and other wonderful countries. So many memories.
He loved nature. He had time for his cows, goats, pigs, chickens, dogs and a few other exotic animals peacocks.
He loved his daily conversation with God as he roamed around is ranch. He enjoyed hosting parties with Mom for family and friends. Family and friends were their joy.
In all this God was all ways present in Dads life. Dad never did anything without first acknowledging God in his life. Holy Mass was his strength which lead to his deep spiritual life that grew everyday of his life.
I will always hear his voice saying something that would mention his Beautiful Lady, his Darling, his wife his best friend and his love. His sayings “I let you know later Honey!”(full of smiles) his children and grandchildren will always remember his special words.
Now he is reunited with his beloved Mother, Father, Brothers, and all his dear friends.
His beloved wife is still here but will be reunited with when God says. I look forward to catching up with him on this journey as I’m sure my sibling would be too.
